I chose Meryon by Franz Kline. We were then asked to create a bespoke typeface system that could be used for an exhibition of works by the chosen artist. I was intrigued by how Kline used the Bell Opticon projector to enlarge his drawings to an extent that they became completely abstract. He recognised the the lines contained within a traditional medium of visual representation: life drawing. Through the type, I wanted demonstrate Kline's technique. I used Baskerville, a traditional English typeface and deconstructed it so that it appeared as if it were made of vertical lines.
